The Plan

The Best “Laid” Plans Sometimes Come To…

The plan was to get a big grant, but gestation was terminated by the Founding Fathers of Our City. Then David Best said do it anyway, even if it has to be a little tiny box. That got Glimmer really fired up, so we asked the LLC for a burn platform. Not just any burn platform; THE burn platform.

They said yes, and with awesome help from Art Support Services we figured
out how to move three large playa installations onto a hot burn platform in
hours. So, the plan is that in The Future, The Mother will burn where The
Man stood, right after sunset at 8pm.

She Won’t Make It To Labor Day…

How do we get there from here? As of end June, weve already built the pagodas of hope and fear. We brought them to Flambe Lounge/PreCompression in SF where they were a big hit.You can see pix in the image gallery.  We cut out the woman shapes and built the frame that will hold them.  Over the next month we will thread the cross sections onto the frame and drill holes in the pieces. Once we drill holes around the perimeter of each slice, we can skin this Motha with rope through the holes and test assemble her.

We also need to build a head armature out of slotted ply, and her paper mache face and mask. And her furry boot covers. And her heart and embryo. And of course, a nice tall platform to mount her on when she burns! More slotted plywood for that of course.

We already have rocking 6 channel audio prototyped for the pagodas and The Mother. We could really use someone to manage lights, and were thinking blacklight floods might pop well on whitewash. Finding a pyro god would help make the burn extra spectacular. And were thinking a little piece of fire art surrounded by Playatech seating about 30 feet in front of the installation might be nice for connecting.

Timing?

We want to finish construction by end July, but the playa gods will likely push things a little into August. Then well take a desert preparation break, and head to BRC just in time to have the installation complete by event opening. Well enjoy pageantry and processing at the installation all week, and implement the miscarriage before The Man burns. Then well magically move the project Sunday, and light it up after the Temple falls.

By Labor Day morning, there will be no trace of this pregnancy, and without a child, there can be no Mother...
