Dear Friends,
The burning of Fire in the Belly couldn't have gone off any better and
was
a beautiful close to an amazing week.
We returned home to piles of laundry, piles of scrap wood, piles of
honey-dos and parties, but before we settle back into what we call
normal,
I wanted to take a few moments to say thank you to some wonderful people
who without, we couldn't have achieved such an amazing installation. I
wish I had pictures to send along with this notice but will try to get
them
on the web site as soon as possible.
If you have photos, send them along to me and I will ask Becky to post
them
to the web site for all of us to enjoy.

So, without future adieu...
Thanks to:
Heidi WD for the image of the woman and the furry boot covers
Scary for assisting in the initial design of the Mother, lending us a
flame-thrower and for getting the last 8 pieces of the roofs out to
Burning
Man.
Blayssa for helping to make the maquette, sewing bitty clothes and a
massive tutu
Yoyo for spending blurry-eyed hours cutting out paper model pieces
Jay N for the wonderful CAD layout that got us to reality in wood
Durgy for the loving gift of white washing and writing prose gotta love
making the front page of the Beacon on Wednesday!
DiLicious and Lovetoy for their hours of white washing, sanding and
painting and ongoing support when things got really tough
Ron for helping with the wood working when we all were just beginning to
figure it out
Rose and Damien who came in at the last moment and gave color to the
project by painting the faces and the altar tops and transporting them
to
and from Club Z.
Steve Glowinski for adding the lighting to the woman's guy wires so we
didn't injure any visitors
Jay for his endless hours of Home Depot road trips, power tool drives
and
always hanging out to help clean up. Thanks also for letting me
overdrive
your paper shredder. For those of you who didn't know, Jay never made
it
to Burning Man to see the final installation so his gift is extra
touching
to me.
Plan B for tireless hours of good cheer helping with cutting, sanding,
cleaning up and whatever else we could task him with. Special thanks
for
taking down the pagoda at Flambe Lounge giving me the inspiration to see
this project through during a moment of doubt.
Chris and Shawn who provided never ending moral support and helped get
the
pagodas home from Flambe Lounge
Artery and DPW who helped get things on the playa to work smoothly
James who came in just when I needed a burst of inspiration and for
helping
to build and manage the project on the playa

Bonefire for advising Sunshine on how to make one hell of a burning
impression. I think you inflamed his new found pyromaniacal personality
Joel who, as a virgin, was so caught up in the spirit of the
installation
that he just had to make sure it got to Burning Man and so decided to
drive
it there himself - even though he lives in Carson City
Wristy for coming in just when we needed him most; for his tenacity and
never ending charm; for his sense of humor even in the face of something
completely outside his understanding. I know that I will never be able
to
fully convey my deepest thanks for the amazing gifts that Wristy brought
to
this project and I am grateful that I now have a life time in which to
try
as I look forward to many, many years of friendship.
Stig for educating us in such a loving way and teaching us to respect
wood;
for spending untold hours fixing and tooling and creating so that we
could
actually get a stable woman built. Again, the friendship we have
created
will give us time to laugh over the more painful parts of the process.
Becky for lovingly creating a web site so we could journal our progress,
raise awareness and funds and have a repository for photos. She never
got
to see the installation done since web-casting on the man platform ended
just hours before we set the woman on fire. My hope is to get her and
her
hubby as virgins to BM with me next year.
Sawdust for coming to work on the project without complaint; for taking
on
the repetitive tasks others grew tired of doing; for hours of support
and
listening when we thought we couldn't go on. For being a cheerleader,
for
acknowledging the power of the project and for helping in so many ways.
And lastly, to my Sunshine who took on this project with love; for
designing beautiful pagodas for parents to reflect in and for standing
by
me when I laughed, cried and screamed. At the moment that we saw the
woman
engulfed in flames our love and friendship mingled even more tightly
together. Thank you for this gift of a lifetime of memories. Again,
words
escape me....
I would also like to acknowledge my first baby, who never had a name and
never saw the light of day. His life was short, but through Fire in the
Belly, his life has touched enough hearts to have been truly meaningful
I am sure that I have forgotten a few of you amazing contributors in the
post-playa fog, and I apologize. There were many of you who came and
helped for a day and more burners than I could keep track of came to
help
move the installation to the Man platform. Each of you gave a gift and
I
am very grateful to call all of you my community.
Hugs,
Glimmer
